In the run-up to the 2026 Lunar New Year or Tet Festival, major landmarks and central streets are undergoing upgrades to create a festive atmosphere for residents and visitors.

Under plans approved by the department of construction, the entire exterior of Ben Thanh Market is being repainted while preserving its distinctive architectural lines and decorative details.

About 100 workers and technical teams have been deployed to carry out the works simultaneously. More than half of the market’s canopy has already been repainted, with other items progressing quickly.

Road markings, pedestrian crossings and surrounding public spaces are also being refreshed with clearer, more visible colours.

Along Ham Nghi Street, cherry pickers, cranes and specialised equipment have been positioned outside older buildings to repaint and refurbish facades, creating a more uniform streetscape.

As part of the wider urban upgrade programme, Turtle Lake roundabout is also set for renovation. The central tower will be repainted in lighter tones, pavements cleaned and additional greenery planted.

Earlier, the city approved the refurbishment of seven key areas, including the square in front of Ben Thanh Market, Turtle Lake roundabout, Phu Dong roundabout, and Nguyen Hue, Dong Khoi, Ham Nghi and Hai Ba Trung streets.

The project is scheduled for completion before February 10, in time for the Lunar New Year holiday.
