On Friday afternoon, the third day of the lunar year, fishing boats in Giao Thuy District returned to shore with many fish.
The Giao Hai Fish Market was bustling with seafood trading.
"We started our trips on the second day of the lunar new year, which was said to be a good day," fisherman Dinh Van Ha said. "Thank god we all had good trips with many fish caught and sold at high prices. This promised a good lunar year for us."
Ha said that her crew caught 600 kilos of fish and shrimp on his 24-hour trip, which was sold at VND8 million.
Another fisherman, Nguyen Thi Van, said his boat earned some VND4 million on their first trip of the 2025 lunar year. "It is still the Tet Lunar New Year holiday, and the demand for fresh seafood for Tet parties is high, so we can sell our catches at good prices," Van said.
Many traders and visitors arrived at the Giao Hai Market to buy fish.
"The fish, crab and shrimp here look so fresh, so I decided to buy 10 kilos of shrimp," said Minh Duc, a tourist from Hanoi.
A trader, Tran Thi Khinh, said that seafood prices have doubled during the Tet holiday due to high demand and low supplies.
"I came here and waited nearly two hours for the fishing boats to return so that I could buy their new catch," the trader said. "I bought 13 kilos of crab and over 10 kilos of shrimp today."
Giao Hai Fish Market is a big market which sells seafood from over 1,000 fishing boats operating in Giao Thuy District and neighbouring localities.
