According to the vice chairman of La Phu Commune People's Committee, Nguyen Dinh Tien, many confectionery manufacturers in La Phu Industrial Park have dumped their products that they could not sell or ingredients used in production at surrounding dump sites.
"The dumping activities have occurred around the Tet Lunar New Year holiday," the official said. "Local environmental workers have collected some, but more are continuing to be dumped.'
Tien said that more than 100 confectionery makers operate in the park, discharging a large amount of rubbish daily.
"Most of the waste came from companies that have ceased operation and those that had their products unsold due to safety or hygiene violations," he explained.
The official said that environmental workers are still trying to collect the rubbish as more has spilt onto the roads.
The abandoned confectionery products left at local dumping sites are estimated to have amounted to dozens of tonnes.
