Tonnes of rubbish have slid from a waste treatment plant onto a coffee plantation in the Central Highlands City of Dalat.

On Wednesday, the Xuan Truong Ward People's Committee visited the Xuan Truong Waste Treatment Plant to investigate following a resident's complaint that a large amount of rubbish had slid from its dumping site onto pine trees and his coffee plantation.

"Initial investigations showed that heavy downpours on October 22 and 23 had caused the rubbish from the plant's dumping site to fall, burying pine trees and some 2,000 square metres of coffee plantation down a hill," the committee said. "Wastewater leaking from the dumping site has run out, polluting some surrounding streams."

Xuan Truong Commune authorities have asked the plant to collect all the rubbish and reinforce their dumping site to prevent similar incidents. The plant has also been asked to compensate the farmer for their losses.

The Xuan Truong Waste Treatment Plant, which covers 28 hectares on a hill in Xuan Truong Commune, began operations in 2015. The plant treats Dalat City's rubbish and produces plastic beads, fertiliser, and block bricks.
