Over 120 trees have been destroyed in Gia Lai forest
The Ia Grai District Forest Ranger Department announced on December 3 that the destruction occurred in an area managed by the Bac Ia Grai Protective Forest Management Board.
"Following our latest patrols on November 27 and 28, we've found 124 trees with diameters of between 13 cm and 1 m cut down," the department said. "Initial investigations showed that many trees were felled several months ago, and some were newly cut."
The department said illegal loggers have been destroying the trees for a long time.
The department is working with concerned agencies to investigate the case further.
In November, authorities in the neighbouring Kon Tum Province sentenced five local men to 20-24 months in jail for destroying over 11,000 square metres of natural forest worth over VND100 million for farmland.
