Heavy rain floods streets across Hanoi

A prolonged downpour on the morning of July 3 caused widespread flooding on several central streets in Hanoi.

Trieu Khuc Street was submerged from 9 am to noon as the heavy rain continued.

 The downpours brought constant thunder and lightning. A 66-year-old woman was struck and killed by lightning while working in a field during the rain in the suburban area of Dai Thanh Commune.

According to the weather forecast, the inner city and surrounding areas are expected to experience continued heavy rainfall over the next three to six hours, with precipitation ranging from 20 to 40mm, and some locations seeing over 60mm.

The rain may lead to flooding on multiple streets, with average water depths ranging from 15 to 20cm. Some roads such as Thai Ha, Le Duan, Chua Boc, Nguyen Trai, and Bui Xuong Trach could see deeper flooding of up to 20 to 40cm.

However, most streets are expected to remain flooded only during periods of intense rainfall, with water typically draining within 30 to 60 minutes after the rain stops.
