Over 1,600 officials and residents are mobilised to gather hundreds of tonnes of tar-like oil on a beach in Hue City.
According to the Phu Loc District People’s Committee, over 1,600 officials and residents were mobilised to gather hundreds of tonnes of tar-like oil that had washed ashore.
The oil slick was found along a 17-kilometre stretch of coastline in Loc Vinh Commune and Lang Co Town (Phu Loc District).
On the morning of 24 February, authorities on patrol discovered a dense accumulation of the oil slick drifting ashore. At the time of discovery, initial assessments estimated that around 30 tonnes of oil would need to be collected and treated.
In response, local authorities from Hue City and Phu Loc District and coastal communities collaborated with the SOS Environmental Centre and the Central Vietnam Oil Spill Response Centre to expedite the clean-up operation.

The Hue City Department of Agriculture and Environment conducted seawater sampling at four locations, and the results indicated that pH levels and mineral oil content remained within regulatory standards.
A Department of Agriculture and Environment representative stated that officials would continue monitoring the situation and conducting water quality assessments in the Lang Co and Loc Vinh coastal areas to ensure environmental safety.
