According to the Northern Regional Hydro-Meteorological Station, as of 8 am on October 14, Hanoi was experiencing moderate to heavy rain, with some areas seeing downpours. Over the next 3-6 hours, rainfall is expected to reach 20-40 millimetres on average, with higher levels in certain localities.

The weather agency warned that the rainfall could cause localised flooding on many streets, with water levels reaching 0.1-0.3 metres deep and lasting around 20-30 minutes, while some areas could experience deeper flooding up to 0.4 metres.

Hanoi Drainage Company reported that as of 7 am, rainfall across the city ranged between 10 and 50 millimetres, with some areas such as My Duc and Xuan Mai recording more than 60 millimetres.

No severe flooding points have been recorded so far, the company said, adding that response teams have been stationed at key locations to handle potential waterlogging. Pumping stations have also been activated to lower water levels in the drainage system.

The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicted that from early October 14 until the end of October 15, the Red River Delta and the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh would experience moderate rainfall of 30-70 millimetres, with some areas receiving more than 130 millimetres. Meanwhile, the northern midland and northeastern mountainous regions are forecast to see showers and thunderstorms, with rainfall of 20-40 millimetres, and some localities exceeding 80 millimetres.

In Hanoi, rain and thunderstorms are forecast to persist until the end of October 15, with total rainfall ranging from 30 to 60 millimetres, and locally up to 90 millimetres.
