The animal was found at the home of Tran Kim Hoa in My Phuoc Hamlet. Suspecting it to be a rare species, Hoa promptly reported the find and turned it in to the local police.

After receiving the turtle, Vu Gia Commune Police coordinated with the Economic Office to transfer it to the Danang Forest Protection Department for proper handling.
The turtle weighs about one kilogramme, measures 25 centimetres in length, and displays features consistent with the yellow-headed box turtle species.
The yellow-headed box turtle is a rare and critically endangered species native to Vietnam. It inhabits moist, forested mountain areas and has faced sharp population declines due to excessive hunting and habitat loss.
