Quang Tri authorities remove net traps from the rice field
Authorities in the central province of Quang Tri have dismantled hundreds of bird nets, bamboo poles, and sound devices used to lure wild birds, as part of a province-wide crackdown on illegal hunting during the migratory season.
On October 22, the Cam Lo-Dong Ha Forest Protection Unit and local police removed dozens of traps from paddy fields in Hieu Giang Commune. The area borders a natural wetland forest and serves as a vital habitat for both native and migratory species, including several rare ones.

Bird trapping seriously harms natural habitats and biodiversity
Officials said they seized more than 50 net traps, 100 bamboo stakes, and two loudspeaker systems used to attract birds. They noted that extensive netting and trapping have seriously damaged the area’s biodiversity and bird habitats.
Nguyen Thanh Bac, Chairman of Hieu Giang Commune People’s Committee, said the local administration would increase patrols and run awareness campaigns to encourage residents to protect wild bird species.
Similar operations have taken place in Kim Ngan and Hai Lang, where police and forest rangers have collected and destroyed trapping equipment.
Authorities said the early rainy season attracts large flocks of migratory birds, prompting hunters to set up nets three to five metres high and use decoys and loudspeakers to lure them.
Officials have urged residents to stop hunting, trading, or consuming wild birds and other wildlife. Those who violate the law will face strict penalties.
