According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, a mass of cold air from the north is moving southwards and is expected to intensify over the coming days.
By early morning on October 19, the cold front will begin hitting the northeastern provinces. Between October 20 and 22, it is likely to sweep across other parts of the northeast region, the northern central provinces, and some areas of the northwestern and central regions.
From the evening of October 19, the north will turn cool, with mountainous areas becoming chilly. The lowest temperatures during this period are expected to range between 19-21 degrees Celsius in the Red River Delta, 17-19 degrees Celsius in midland areas, and below 16 degrees Celsius in high mountainous zones.
Hanoi will also turn cool from the night of October 19, especially overnight and in the early morning, with temperatures falling to 19-21 degrees Celsius.
The weather agency warned that the northern and north-central regions could see moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms. In contrast, parts of the south-central region may experience localised downpours on October 19-20. Tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind may accompany thunderstorms.
