Tran Van Huong from Nha Trang Urban Environment Company said on Monday morning that they had mobilised dozens of workers over the past four days to collect rubbish from a beach bordering Tran Phu Street.
"Various kinds of rubbish have been washed ashore following heavy rain and strong winds, including plastic bags and bottles, discarded syringes, and tree branches," Huong said, adding that the water discharge activities from upstream hydropower reservoirs have also brought rubbish from other places to the sea. "We're collecting between 70-80 tonnes of rubbish daily."
Over 50 workers were mobilised to clean the beach from midnight Sunday to Monday morning.
The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that heavy rains have caused flooding in some central provinces but are expected to subside gradually on Monday.
