Smoke comes from the Hanoi Industrial Textile Company's factory.
The Chairman of Hanoi has directed relevant authorities to inspect and immediately address the issue of air pollution caused by the Hanoi Industrial Textile Joint Stock Company, which has been accused of emitting smoke and affecting public health.
Following complaints from residents in Hoang Mai District regarding severe air pollution caused by emissions from the company’s factory, Hanoi People's Committee Chairman Tran Sy Thanh has assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to take the lead. They will coordinate with the Hoang Mai District People's Committee and other relevant units to promptly investigate and strictly handle any violations found.
Chairman Thanh has ordered the authorities to report the results of the investigation by March 20.
Previously, local media reported that residents of Mai Dong Ward, Hoang Mai District, were outraged by the pollution caused by the Hanoi Industrial Textile Joint Stock Company, which was releasing emissions that negatively impacted their health and daily lives.
The Hanoi Industrial Textile Company, headquartered at 91-93 Linh Nam Street, was established 1967 as a state-owned enterprise. The company produces industrial fabrics for irrigation, transportation, construction, environmental projects, garment manufacturing, and footwear.
While other textile companies have been relocated from surrounding residential areas, this factory remains in operation.
In 2017, company representatives met with residents and pledged to relocate within three to five years. However, eight years have passed, and the factory is still in place.
Speaking to Dantri/Dtinews, Nguyen Hong Quan, head of the management board of the 87 Linh Nam apartment complex, said the textile factory continues to release cotton dust and smoke, severely affecting the health and well-being of 300 households.
"Many elderly people and young children suffer from respiratory diseases," Quan said.
The management board has urged authorities to intervene, demanding that the factory implement smoke filtration systems and switch to cleaner fuels to reduce pollution.
