Rare Indian peafowls found at Thanh Hoa waterfall

Authorities in Thanh Hoa Province received three endangered animals from a local resident on December 1, including two Indian peafowls.

Ha Thanh Xuyen, from Hoa Quy Commune, spotted the animals near the Dong Quan Waterfall and notified local authorities.

Forest rangers later identified them as two Indian peafowls (Pavo cristatus) and one Assam macaque (Macaca assamensis).

All three are classified under Group IIB, a category of endangered and precious wildlife protected under Vietnamese law.

The Nhu Xuan Forest Protection Unit, together with Hoa Quy Commune police, has transferred the animals to Xuan Lien National Park for care.
