According to the plan, the clean-up will take place at 8 am on March 1 in Phong Khe I Industrial Cluster. Over 1,200 students, young people, and members of various local organisations will participate in the campaign. The ward's authorities also plan to plant 100 trees and 100 shrubs, with completion scheduled before March 30 2025.
The Bac Ninh City Construction Project Management Board will assist in collecting and disposing of accumulated household waste and dredging the drainage system in the ward.
Phong Khe Ward has a long-standing tradition of papermaking. While the industry has brought prosperity to residents, it has also caused severe environmental damage for decades.
In recent years, Phong Khe has been identified as one of Bac Ninh's three most critical environmental pollution hotspots requiring urgent remediation.
To date, 200 paper production facilities located within residential areas in Phong Khe Ward have ceased operations and relocated due to environmental violations. Additionally, 135 of 137 paper factories in Phong Khe I and II Industrial Clusters have shut down.
Many businesses have voluntarily dismantled their workshops, machinery, and incinerators in compliance with Bac Ninh Province's policies, leading to noticeable environmental improvements in the area.
Bac Ninh authorities plan to invest VND4.60 trillion in transforming Phong Khe's papermaking village into an inland port and logistics service hub.
