The rare monkey weighs around 15 kilogrammes
Nguyen Huu Nien, 45, from Quang Dien Hamlet in Trieu Binh Commune, found the animal in his garden and reported it to local officials.
The macaque, weighing about 15 kilogrammes with light brown-grey fur, was identified as a pig-tailed macaque, a species classified as rare and endangered in Group IIB, which bans hunting, captivity, and trade.
Nguyen Thanh Vu, chairman of Trieu Binh Commune, said on September 25 that local authorities, together with forest rangers, had received the animal. It will be transferred to the Centre for Rescue, Conservation and Creature Development of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in Quang Tri for care and later release into the wild.
