New storm forecast to enter East Sea

A new tropical storm is forecast to develop in the East Sea on September 26, shortly after Typhoon Ragasa weakens.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, a tropical depression east of the Philippines has strengthened into Storm Bualoi.

At 9 am today, September 24, the strongest winds near the centre of Storm Bualoi reached level 9 (75-88 km/h), with gusts up to level 11. The storm is moving west-northwest at about 15 km/h. Over the next 72-120 hours, it is likely to maintain a fast west-northwest track at 20-25 km/h and could further intensify.

It is expected to form in the East Sea on September 26, becoming the tenth storm in the East Sea this year.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Ragasa is predicted to make landfall in Quang Ninh and Haiphong on September 25. It would weaken into a tropical depression on the morning of September 26.

From the night of September 24, strong winds in the northern Gulf of Tonkin, including Bach Long Vi, Van Don, Co To, Cat Hai and Hon Dau islands, are forecast to intensify to level 8, with waves 2-4 metres high. Areas near the storm’s centre may see winds of level 9-11, gusting up to level 13, and waves 3-5 metres high, causing very rough seas.

From September 24 to 26, the northern region and central localities, from Thanh Hoa to Nghe An, are likely to experience heavy rainfall of 100-250 mm or even up to 400 mm in some areas, posing risks of urban flooding, flash floods, and landslides.
