Dr Huy has helped countless patients, such as a single mother with a tumor that covered half her face, a nurse with a giant tongue, or a young man with a "shark jaw", to name just a few.
Ninh Thi Thu Huong from Ninh Binh Province, nicknamed "the girl with the sunken face," is one of the most challenging cases for Dr Richard Huy. One side of Huong's face was deformed, and deeply sunken due to the aftereffects of jaw tumor surgery at the age of six. The entire left half of her jawbone and the underlying soft tissues had been scarred and contracted.
Dr Huy said "Huong's surgery was a tough challenge. We had to carefully find the optimal solution by transferring skin flaps from the head and buttocks to fill the defect, then adjusting the jaw and grafting the jawbone to make Huong's face more symmetrical.” After the doctor and his team conducted four operations lasting 12 hours, Huong had a more harmonious face. Huong's new appearance has encouraged Dr Huy to continue what he is doing.
"When I witnessed her dramatic transformation after surgery, there was no word that could express my feeling. Huong's story full of willpower also made me feel more grateful and appreciate life," shared the doctor.
Another case is Xuan Mai, a girl with congenital cleft palate sequelae. When she was 19, Xuan Mai had eight operations to correct these defects. Her most recent palate correction surgery was at the age of 12.
"Xuan Mai had a cleft lip and palate and a jaw imbalance, creating an open bite malocclusion. We performed a mandibular setback using the BSSO technique, grafted bone to repair the palatal hole, and placed an R.E.D appliance to expand the upper jaw, giving her a radiant smile," said Dr Richard Huy.

Dieu Linh was also a special case for Dr Richard Huy. After being doused with acid by her husband, Dieu Linh bore a 30cm scar from her neck to abdomen, causing the entire face to be deformed.
Examining Dieu Linh, Dr. Richard Huy said: "Linh's case l very complicated due to severe scars contracture, limiting movement in the neck area. The best solution was to place a skin expander, then take an autologous skin flap to remove the scar."
The severe scar contracture case of Dieu Linh was corrected by Dr Huy.
Dr Huy has successfully operated on many other difficult cases. Minh Hoang - a dancer with a congenital facial distortion - regained his appearance and confidence thanks to modern jaw correction techniques; Kim Phuong - a teacher with an overbite and gummy smile - was reborn with a youthful face and radiant smile."I realize that behind the imperfections of each person, there is a unique story, and everyone deserves to be happy," Dr Huy confided.
