Truong Thi Van, 41, from Nghia Dan District’s Nghia Hung Commune was diagnosed with breast cancer following the symptoms of persistent fatigue, continuous weight loss and pain in her left chest. She has to come to hospital for 10-15 days every month for chemotherapy.

Meanwhile, Van’s two children Tran Truong Bao Tram, 15, and Tran Duy Khanh, 11, has been living with Thalassemia for nine years.
Every month, she has to take the children to a hospital in Hanoi for treatment.
According to doctors, this disease can only be cured by stem cell transplant, but it costs up to VND1 billion (USD40,000).
Van's two ailing children
Vo Dinh Luong, head of Dong Sim Village, said that the family now totally depends on the monthly modest income of Van’s husband Tran Duy Hung. But Hung has also been struggling with diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis.
The couple has to support their eldest child, 20, who is studying at a university in Hanoi.
To date, the family has incurred debts of VND120 million which they are unable to pay.
