Around 10,000 volunteers will take part in a run for Agent Orange victims and disabled people in HCM City on August 3.

The charity event is organised by the municipal Red Cross in response to Day for AO Victims (August 10) and the action month for AO victims and the economically disadvantaged and disabled (August 3 to September 3).

The municipal Red Cross is also coordinating with other agencies on other fundraising efforts on behalf of AO victims and poor disabled people.

The organisation raised more than VND2.4 billion in 2012, enabling it to provide regular allowances, scholarships, medical insurance, wheelchairs, and gifts to AO victims.

From September 2006 to 2012, the municipal Fund for AO victims gathered over VND32 billion for AO victims. Some of its resulting projects include public awareness raising initiatives like a documentary film on AO victims and music performances and guided walks to deepen society’s understanding of dioxin’s lingering poisonous legacy.

Around 60% of families of the AO victims can manage their economic activity to stablise their lives. Their children receive educational, vocational training, and employment assistance.
