A hospital which will provide medicine and free healthcare check-ups to Overseas Vietnamese (OV) and poor Cambodians has opened in the Cambodian province of Preah Sihanouk.

Chak Angre Kongpong Som Hospital which is invested by a Vietnamese investor, Doctor Le Ba Hung opened to the public on June 9.

Provincial Governor Sbong Sarat welcomed Vietnamese businesses opening hospitals in the province and said that investment, especially in healthcare sector, is of significance for remote provinces.

He emphasised that the action will help promote friendship between Cambodia and Vietnam, particularly on the two countries’ 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties on June 24, 2012.

Doctor Hung said during his working term in Cambodia, he realised that Cambodians and OVs  lacked healthcare services so the opening of the hospital will benefit  not only local people but those from neighbouring areas, including Kom Pot, Koh Kong and Kep.

After the opening ceremony, doctors and nurses at the hospital provided free medical checks-up and medicine for 800 OVs and poor Cambodians.
