HCM City responds to high tides

HCM City is preparing for high tides forecasted for November 14-16.

According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Centre, the highest water level in Phu An Station on the Saigon River would be 1.46 metres at 4 pm and 1.55 metres at 5 pm. Tides would reach 1.49 metres and 1.57 metres at 4:30 pm on November 15 and 5: 30 pm on November 16 respectively.

The Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue has urged districts to provide up-to-date information about high tides for residents. Authorities of Hoc Mon and Cu Chi District and District 12 in particular need to make careful preparations for the high tides.

The HCM City Fire Fighting and Prevention Board has been asked to arrange mobile water pumps to deal with possible inundation caused by high tides. Warning signs and traffic lights need to be installed on flooded roads.

Localities also need to carefully check dykes in areas which are vulnerable to be affected by high tides.

HCM City often experiences high tides which cause serious flooding. It is common to see many local streets turned into rivers due to high tides.

The city is carrying out anti-flood projects to improve the situation.
