The figure was revealed in a MOET report released on August 27, the deadline for the first round of university admissions in 2024.

According to MOET's data, 673,586 students were offered university placements in the first round of 2024, an increase of 58,116 compared to 2023.

However, only 551,479 students confirmed enrollment, representing 81.87 percent of those accepted. This means that 18.13 percent, or 122,107 accepted students, chose not to pursue university education.

MOET said the enrollment rate this year has slightly improved from 80.34 percent last year.

Students who had not confirm their enrollment on the ministry's online system by 5 pm on August 27 would be considered to have refused their admission.

Dozens of universities, including prestigious institutions, have announced plans to admit more students for the new school year.

Hanoi School of Business and Management under the Vietnam National University-Hanoi has offered 70 more places. Those wanting to apply must have at least a 22 in the national examination, including a 6 in English. They will also need to write a dissertation and participate in an Emotional Quotient (EQ) test.
