Farmers in neighbouring localities of Hanoi bring the flowers to the city centre after the Tet holiday, and they are earning good money as demand for flowers at spring festivals is rising.
A farmer in Hung Yen Province, Nguyen Thi Hoa, said that she brought 10 kilos of pomelo flowers to Hanoi last Sunday and sold out in a few hours.
"I've been selling the flowers here for many years," Hoa said. "The pomelo flower season usually lasts only three weeks, and we have to cut some flowers for sale, only keeping some on the trees to have better fruits. Thanks to high demand, the flowers have been selling well."
It is easy to see pomelo flowers being sold on many Hanoi streets including Xa Dan, Pham Ngoc Thach, and Giang Vo.
A customer, Phan Anh Quyen, said that she usually buys pomelo flowers to put on the family altar and to bring to pagodas as an offering to Buddha. "All my family like the sweet fragrance of pomelo flowers," she said. "We feel pleasant having it inside the house during this wet spring weather."
Quyen said that the prices of the flowers were rather high, at up to VND500,000 per kilo.
"My husband also uses the flower to make tea while my mother puts some in her bathtub," she added.
Hoa said that some of her customers even send the flowers to the south or abroad as Hanoi spring gifts.
