According to the initial report, by 7 am on Thursday, two people had been killed, five remained missing, and two others were injured in Muong Pon Commune in Dien Bien District. The flash flood caused ten houses in Muong Pon to collapse.
Around 100 people have been evacuated from vulnerable areas.
Dien Bien and some other northern provinces including Son La, Hoa Binh, and Lao Cai have been forecasted to see widespread rain and flash floods triggered by Storm Prapiroon.
In the neighbouring provinces of Son La, Lao Cai and Hoa Binh, large-scale landslides have also occurred in many areas, blocking traffic on many roads. Three people were killed in Son La flash floods and landslides on July 24.
