Prime minister approves Long Thanh airport’s first phase

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved the construction of Long Thanh International Airport’s first phase in the southern province of Dong Nai.

The first stage which has a total investment of VND109 trillion (USD4.66 billion) will be carried out in the 2020-2025 period.

Long Thanh has been targeted as among key airports in Southeast Asia and Asia.

In the phase, the project would have one runway, one terminal and supporting facilities with an annual capacity of 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo.

The project is divided into four subsections, including building the headquarters of state management agencies, flight management services, essential airport facilities, and other works.

The third sub-project would consist of a 4,000-metre runway, taxiways and terminals.

According to the director of the Airports Corporation of Vietnam, Lai Xuan Thanh, site clearance for the first phase of Long Thanh has essentially been completed and construction is expected to start as early as December this year.

Once all three phases of Long Thanh Airport are fully complete in 2040, the airport will have four runways and four terminals, capable of handling up to 100 million passengers annually.
