HCM City is investing VND220 billion (USD 8.74 million) into upgrading pavements and alleys in District 1.

The work started in late June and is scheduled to be finished by the end of this year.

As part of the upgrade, the old stones on pavements of streets such as Nguyen Thi Nghia, De Tham, Nguyen Trai, Huynh Thuc Khang, Pham Ngoc Thach, Nguyen Van Chiem, Nguyen Van Cu, Nguyen Thai Hoc, and Pham Ngu Lao are being replaced with durable and aesthetically pleasing granite.

Many workers are renovating the pavement on Nguyen Trai Street. Nguyen Van Vui, a worker from Dong Thap Province, said that the unfavourable weather is slowing down the work which is scheduled to be completed in September.

Old drainage systems will be replaced on many streets.

Granite purchased from the southern central province of Binh Dinh is stockpiled on Ton That Tung Street for pavement.

On this occasion, around 65 alleys in HCM City will be refurbished.

The city has planned to upgrade 37 pavements and 15 alleys with a total investment of VND400 billion.
