The incident occurred at 5 pm on June 6 when the train was running northwards through Bac Binh District, Binh Thuan Province. It suddenly collided with an excavator operated by a contractor who was carrying out rail improvement work.
The strong collision derailed train with its front badly damaged. Fortunately, all the passengers were unharmed.
By 9 pm the same day, local authorities were still trying to clear the rail while the north-south train services were suspended.
