The Ministry of Public Security has dispatched a working group to Myanmar in order to support the repatriation of Vietnamese citizens who have been stranded in the conflict zone in northern Myanmar.

The move comes amid an increasingly complicated situation in the conflict zone, which has threatened the life of Vietnamese citizens.

Accordingly, under the direction of Deputy Minister of Public Security, Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, the Immigration Department has proactively co-ordinated efforts with the Consular Department and the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar to speed up the granting of passports and to organise flights aimed at bringing them home as part of rolling out citizen protection measures.

As of December 6, a total of 780 people have been supported to return home on six charter flights. The department added that along with relevant agencies it will organise more charter flights this week in an effort to bring home Vietnamese citizens who are still stranded in Myanmar.

Due to the large number of rescued citizens, the Immigration Department has co-operated with relevant units in a bid to urgently verify all information regarding Vietnamese citizens to ensure the fastest support for them possible.

To date, the Immigration Department has verified and issued passports to a total of 1,068 Vietnamese citizens.
