
The Ho Chi Minh City Centre of Disease Control (HCDC) announced on Sunday that a 34-year-old man tested positive for monkeypox.
The man, who comes from Binh Chanh District, first found a large amounts of itchy fluid-filled bumps on his body and came to the HCM City Dermatology Hospital for a checkup on September 28. He tested positive for monkeypox and has since been isolated for treatment and genetic sequencing.
HCDC has tracked other people who came into direct contact with the patient for monitoring.
Earlier this month two monkeypox cases were also confirmed in the city.
Vietnam reported the first two cases of monkeypox in October 2022. These patients returned from a tour to Dubai.
The Ministry of Health decided to add monkeypox to Group B infectious diseases which are classified as dangerous, highly contagious, and potentially fatal.
