Ha Giang Police announced on Monday afternoon that they found the body of a local man, To Dinh, at 12.30 pm the same day. Earlier, rescue forces also found the body of a local woman, Ta Thi, 53, on Sunday afternoon.
To Dinh and Ta Thi were staying home when the landslide suddenly hit their houses in Viet Vinh Commune at 8.30 am on September 29.
According to a report from local authorities, some 3,000 cubic metres of rock and soil suddenly fell from a nearby hill onto the National Road 2 at that time, burying three road-side houses, a passenger bus, a truck, and three cars.
Ha Giang Chairman Nguyen Van Son arrived at the site on Monday morning to direct the rescue work.
"Two bodies have been found at the landslide site while the number of missing people has yet to be defined," the official said. "We've urgently evacuated 13 households living along National Road 2 due to fears of more landslides coming. Local authorities have also evacuated 45 other families with 148 members from other landslide and flood-prone areas in the commune."
Ha Giang Province witnessed heavy rain from Saturday to Sunday morning, triggering landslides and flash floods in different areas.
