Hanoi public bus fare increase proposed
The Hanoi Ministry of Transport has recommended raising public bus ticket prices by 10-55 percent this year.
Under the proposal, the single ticket price for a distance of less than 15 kilometres would increase to VND8,000 from VND7,000. For trips between 15 and 25 kilometres, the ticket would rise from VND7,000 to VND10,000. Longer trips of 30 to 40 kilometres would have fares of VND15,000 against VND9,000 at present.
For distances of 40 kilometres, the ticket will rise by 55 percent to VND20,000 from VND9,000.
Monthly ticket fares would be VND70,000 for the single route and VND140,000 for inter-routes.
Bus ticket exemption will continue for groups such as policy beneficiaries and people aged 60 and above, children under 6 years old, and households classified as poor.
Hanoi is now home to 154 public bus routes, transporting tens of thousands of passengers per day.
