The Hanoi Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has warned that the Breteau index (BI) has exceeded the threshold in several outbreaks in the capital city, making dengue fever increasingly complicated.

The BI is a percentage of positive containers in inspected houses, the centre revealed.

According to the Hanoi Department of Health, from June 14 to 20, as many as 73 dengue infections were recorded, a figure 35 higher than the previous week.

Monitoring the active outbreak in Dan Phuong district on June 18, the department recorded a BI index of 42.8% across 21 households in Dong Van village.

Cases were documented throughout 19 districts, mostly in Dan Phuong district with 40 cases.

Since the beginning of the year, the city has reported a total of 856 cases of dengue fever, a number which stands 1.7 times higher than the same period last year.

No dengue-related deaths have been recorded to date, the CDC noted.
