In Hau Giang Province, nearly 4,000 hectares of rice fields have been badly affected by prolonged heavy rains that have ravaged the locality since mid July.
According to the local Department of Agricultural and Rural Development, they have tried to pump water out but it didn't help much due to the large amount of rain water.
Local farmers may face more damage to their crops if rains continue.
In Ca Mau Province, torrential rains over the past 10 days have also damaged a large area of rice ahead of harvest time.
Head of Village 5, Mai Van Mot, said that some 100 hectares of rice have been damaged by the floods.
A rice trader in Can Tho City said that they've never seen such a bad crop in the region. "The quality and quantity of rice in this crop will be badly affected by the ongoing flood," the trader said.
