A coastal forest in the central province of Ha Tinh has been seriously damaged by the recent storm.
Storm Nesat, the sixth hitting Vietnam this year, has caused severe erosion for around two kilometres of beach in Nghi Xuan District’s Xuan Hoi Commune.
Ho Quoc Huy, 63, a local resident said that the erosion has become more serious due to rough seas.
Hundreds of casuarina trees have been uprooted by big waves, including those with diameters of up to 20 cm.
The erosion has expanded
According to Tran Van Hien, party secretary of Xuan Hoi Commune, erosion is up to 10 metres deep in some spots. Local authorities are considering measures to consolidate the beach to ensure safety during the flood season.
Storm Nesat has brought about torrential downpours for the central region of Vietnam, particularly localities from Ha Tinh to Thua Thien-Hue.
