Peruvian arrested in Vietnam for ATM scam

Police in the southern province of Dong Nai on November 19 arrested a Peruvian man for stealing VND3 billion (USD142,857) from ATMs.

Nuez Correa Elmer Eduardo, 42, used exploited weaknesses in ATMs in cities and provinces in Vietnam and then stole the money for gambling in Cambodia.

In mid-December 2014, Eduardo and four other foreigners damaged an ATM in Bien Hoa Industrial Park 2, Dong Nai Province, taking more than VND900 million.

After that, the group carried out six other raids in HCM City and Khanh Hoa. They apparently stole nearly VND3 billion. Eduardo said that the group used the stolen money to gamble in Cambodia.

Dong Nai police searching for the rest of the gang.
