In early October, the Hanoi People’s Committee began construction of the project, also known as the Pearl Opera House, along with a themed cultural and arts park on the Dam Tri area of the Quang An Peninsula in Tay Ho Ward.

The project has total investment of more than VND 12.756 trillion (approximately USD 502 million) and covers about 191,000 square metres. The site sits at the centre of the peninsula, surrounded on three sides by West Lake.

Designed for major cultural and political events, the opera house will feature a wave-inspired dome clad in nacre-effect materials that reflect changing light throughout the day.

Within a month, the Dam Tri area had been fully levelled. The site borders Dang Thai Mai Street to the east and southeast, West Lake to the west, residential areas to the northwest, and a planned road to Quang Ba to the north.

The project will be implemented in two phases until the third quarter of 2029. Phase one focuses on constructing the opera house, while phase two will develop the specialised cultural and arts park.

Early phase-one work is under way, with crews building the foundations and basement.

The opera house will include two main auditoriums, a 1,797-seat opera hall and a multi-purpose hall with mobile seating for about 1,430 standing guests and 216 seated in the balcony.

Surrounding ponds and lakes, including the Pho Linh Pagoda lotus pond and Thuy Su Lake, will be cleaned, restored and replanted with West Lake lotus to complement the cultural park.

When completed, the Pearl Opera House is expected to become a new Hanoi landmark, featuring modern, multi-functional architecture suitable for major cultural and political events.
