The venue had deteriorated for years, prompting the Vietnam Football Federation to stop hosting national team home matches there after the 2024 AFF Cup.

Work, expected to take more than three months, has halted all sporting and entertainment events.

Contractors are excavating 40 to 50 centimetres to rebuild drainage and improve irrigation. The old turf has been removed and the sub-base is being prepared for new high-quality grass.

The pitch will be rebuilt in seven layers and re-turfed with Zeon Zoysia, the grass used at Old Trafford and Anfield. Installation is expected to begin in February 2026.

The state-funded project totals VND 10 billion (USD 392,160), carried out in two phases. The first phase, worth VND 8 billion, will rebuild the pitch foundation and is planned for completion by year-end, while the second phase, worth VND 2 billion, will lay the new turf.

The coaching staff benches will be installed once the new pitch is completed.

Officials say the overhaul will help restore My Dinh as Vietnam’s top sporting venue by addressing deterioration and meeting international standards for major events.
