Danang spends VND 100 billion on square upgrade

The central city of Danang will spend VND 100 billion (USD 3.9 million) on upgrading the square in the northwestern area.

Situated in Hoa Minh Ward, Lien Chieu District, at the northwestern gateway of Danang City, the square lies in a densely populated area with universities, colleges, and major industrial zones.

The project aims to transform the existing square into a multifunctional space for hosting outdoor events. It also seeks to harmonise the surrounding landscape, enhance green spaces, and elevate the area's urban aesthetics.

The project covers upgrading and expanding the square to 35,235 square metres, including renovated areas, repurposed land from Ho Ba On Street, and an extension northeast to Hoang Thi Loan Street. A design competition will select key components such as architecture, landscaping, infrastructure, and equipment, emphasising reusing existing infrastructure and greenery in good condition.

The northwestern area of Danang, including Lien Chieu District and the four northern communes of Hoa Vang District, is geographically remote from the city centre and has limited access to cultural institutions and recreational amenities.

The area is home to eight universities, colleges, and five major hi-tech and industrial zones. But, unlike other districts in the city that have been planned with at least two district-level cultural and sports centres, Lien Chieu District currently has only one.

The project is divided into two phases: the investment preparation phase, scheduled from 2025 to 2026, and the implementation phase, scheduled from 2026 to 2028.
