Work starts on Dantri classroom in Thai Nguyen

Dantri/DTiNews Newspaper has held a ground-breaking ceremony for a multi-function room at a primary school in the northern province of Thai Nguyen.

Ground-breaking ceremony for a multi-function room at a primary school in the northern province of Thai Nguyen on August 31.

The 232-square-metre project was built with an investment of over VND1.1 billion (USD48,468) of which USD12,000 was donated by the Japanese Shinnyo-en Organisation through Dantri/DTiNews newspaper’s Compassionate Hearts Charity Fund with the remainder sourced from the province's budget.

The 15th Dantri classroom project is expected to be completed by December.

At the ceremony, the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education gave 20 scholarships worth VND500,000 (USD22) each to 20 pupils from low-income families, and gave VND60 million (USD2,643) donated by the organising board of the Swing for the Kids 2017 golf tournament to support the school to buy equipment.

Speaking at the ceremony, vice chairman of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education, Pham Thi Hoe said that the association has been cooperating with individuals and organisations in and outside Vietnam to support education activities nation-wide.

"Thai Nguyen Province especially Nga My I Primary School is among disadvantaged areas that need support to have better facilities and equipment for study and we decided to build this project," Hoe continued, adding that the Shinnyo-en Organisation has been donating thousands of USD every year through the association and Dantri/DTiNews newspaper’s Compassionate Hearts Charity Fund to support schools in remote and disadvantaged areas in Vietnam.

On behalf of the teachers and students at Nga My I Primary School, headmaster Vu Thi Phuong expressed gratitude for this "big and meaningful gift".
