Nguyen Ngoc Tan, deputy director of the city's transport and agricultural project management board, said major work on the emergency Hoi An coastal protection project would be completed on September 30.
Remaining work behind the emergency embankment is scheduled for completion by mid-October.
Severe weather during the 2025 storm season caused extensive erosion along the Thu Bon River in Duy Nghia Commune and the Hoi An coastline.
Danang subsequently launched emergency works to protect coastal and riverside communities and infrastructure from erosion, high tides and large waves during the 2026 storm season.
The projects carry combined investment of more than VND490 billion (USD18.6 million), including VND 238 billion (USD 9 million) for emergency work along the Hoi An coast.
The coastal project includes a 1.95-km embankment through Hoi An Dong and Hoi An Tay wards, designed to prevent further erosion and help restore the beach.
The embankment largely follows the existing coastline and includes reinforced coastal protection structures and measures to prevent erosion at its base.
Construction crews have been working in shifts since May to complete the emergency coastal defences by September 30.
Danang authorities have asked contractors to complete the remaining work by October 15 while meeting technical and safety requirements.
The project is also part of the city's efforts to adapt coastal infrastructure to climate change and reduce damage from natural disasters.
