The readers of DTiNews have donated over VND235 million (USD11,200) to a little boy from Binh Dinh Province in order to treat a strange skin disease.

 Grateful mother receives donation

On September 8, representatives of DTiNews visited the 1-year-old boy, A Phung, at Quy Hoa National Leprosy Dermatology Hospital to give award him with VND235,746,000, given by readers. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thoi Loan said, "The boy's health is improving. He now only has small lesions on the left of his neck and groin. He has, however, developed a case of slight bronchitis. Still, he will be able to be discharged in a few days time."

A Phung was covered in lesions since he was six months old. Doctors commented that the disorder is very rare, affecting less than one percent of the population. Yet it is still serious and can cause blood infections, and in certain cases can be fatal.

After A Phung's story was published, readers from across the country contributed to him and his family. A Phung's mother showed great gratitude to all kind people who donated to help them overcome such a challenging time.

A Phung's mother helps other patients in similar situation

A Phung's parents decided to spend VND75 million of the money to help four other patients staying in the same ward as A Phung. His mother, Y Ao, said, "I never dreamed of holding VND5 million, let alone the huge sum that was given by such kind people. When A Phung first came to hospital, we were helped by many other patients. Now I want to share our good fortune with other people. Just recently, we witnessed a poor person who died because he didn't have money for treatment."

A patient staying in the same room said, "My illness is getting worse and I feel I am becoming a huge burden on my family, who can't afford the hospital bills. We really admire Y Ao's action. I don't know what to say but to thank Y Ao and all the kind readers."
