A poor family in Nghe An Province is calling for help to save their 11-month-old child suffering from complicated congenital heart disease.

Nguyen Thi Khanh An is the second child of Nguyen Anh Tuan and Tran Thi Tham. She was born two weeks premature, weighing just 2.5kg. Over the next three months, she only gained only 0.3kg, causing her parents to take her to Nghe An Children Hospital, was diagnosed. Doctors recommended that she be taken to a hospital in Hanoi. Tuan and Tham had to sell some of their few valuables and borrow money for the trip.
In Hanoi, doctors said that An's condition was very complicated and would require a series of at least three surgeries. However, surgery was deemed too dangerous, given the fact the 11-month-old girl still weighed 4kg. Doctors advised the parents to bring An back to hospital every month for check-ups. But they do not have enough money.

The parents tried several charity medical groups, but received the same advice. Now they have sold everything of value and their debts continue to mount. The mother is at a loss for what to do as her baby cries loudly and coughs until her face turns blue. "She eats, but does not gain any weight. Doctors said surgery is unsafe if she weighs below 5kg. And, even if she put on the weight, we wouldn't know where to find the money," she said.
However, Tuan and Tham have not given up on her recovery. They recount the time An was infected with measles and treated in a ward with five other children, but An was the only one to survive.
Due to An's condition, her her mother must stay home to take care of her. An's father is a hired hand at a workshop specialised in aluminum and glass. His low salary cannot cover both the daily meals and the cost of medication.
