A poor family in Quang Binh Province is in desperate need of financial support to treat their second child for a blood disorder after losing the first son to dioxin effects.

Dinh Xuan Thanh and Dinh Thi Vu, live in Yen Nhat Village. Their greatest wish is that their children are healthy, but for the last 20 years they have been tragically disappointed. Their firstborn died of the effects of dioxin, which afflicted the father. The second son, Dinh Son Lam, is still being treated at Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi City for his disorder.
Lam is 23 years old, but only weighs 23kg. Dr. Vuong Cong Hai said, "Previously, Lam came to the hospital regularly for blood transfusions, but this time his symptoms are much more serious. He has now been admitted for heart failure and acute pyelonephritis. In addition to that, he still needs constant blood transfusions to keep him alive."
Lam was diagnosed with his blood disorder in 2004 after registering in the "A Heart For You" programme. Doctors prescribed an immediate blood transfusion because his health was deteriorating so quickly. Since then, Lam has had to go to Hue General Hospital five times a year for regular blood transfusions. In 2008, the family transferred him to the Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Hospital to reduce traveling costs.

The family owns a small plot of land, but Thanh, the father, also suffers from illness. He said that he participated in the war, but has lost the documentation to prove it, which would qualify him for benefits.
"Sometimes it seems like there is no hope. We've already sold everything, and when there was nothing to sell, we borrowed money from neighbours to continue the blood transfusions. I hurt for him, I couldn't bare to see him die. We always hope for some miracle to cure him," he said.
