On July 26, a ceremony was held in Dong Xuan Commune to inaugurate 50 flood-resistant floating houses for 50 disadvantaged households in Tuy An Bac and Dong Xuan communes in Dak Lak Province, funded by donations from Dantri/Dtinews readers.
Speaking at the ceremony, Pham Tuan Anh, editor-in-chief of Dantri, thanked the leadership of the Dak Lak Province People's Committee, provincial departments, the two localities and residents for their support and cooperation.
According to the editor-in-chief, flood-resistant floating houses are a model that has been researched and applied effectively in many countries. The model has also been deployed in several disaster-prone areas in Vietnam. In 2020, Dantri began construction of 50 such houses in Quang Tri Province. After more than five years in use, the houses have proved effective in helping many families protect lives and property during floods.
"The continued construction of 50 flood-resistant floating houses for residents in two localities in Dak Lak Province reflects Dantri's wish to help communities strengthen their ability to respond to natural disasters. We believe these houses will become safe anchors, helping residents protect lives and property whenever floods strike," Pham Tuan Anh said.
Do Huu Huy, chairman of the Dak Lak Province People's Committee, thanked Dantri/Dtinews and its readers for their practical and heartfelt support for local people.
"For local people, the 50 floating houses handed over today are 50 safe anchors that will help residents protect their lives and preserve their property when floodwaters rise. More importantly, these houses will help people enter each rainy and storm season with greater preparedness and peace of mind," he said.
Do Huu Huy, chairman of the Dak Lak Province People's Committee, and Pham Tuan Anh, editor-in-chief of Dantri, joined representatives of provincial departments, local authorities and beneficiary households in a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the official handover of the 50 floating houses ahead of this year's flood season.
Alongside the 50 flood-resistant floating houses, Dantri, in cooperation with Hoang Viet Primary, Secondary and High School, also presented gifts worth a total of VND 150 million (USD 5,800), to residents in Dong Xuan, Tuy An Bac and Xuan Phuoc communes in Dak Lak Province.

The project to build 50 flood-resistant floating houses had a total budget of VND 2 billion (USD 77,500), of which Dantri readers contributed VND 1.75 billion (USD 67,800). The remainder was provided by the two localities. After more than two months of construction, all 50 houses were completed and handed over to residents ahead of this year's flood season.
