A 13-year old boy in the southern province of Bac Lieu is facing bone cancer which has caused his face to become deformed.

His mother Nguyen Thuy Linh, 26, from in Chau Phu Village, Vinh My A, Hoa Binh District, has been taking care of her only son for more than ten years.Tran Chi Khang, by herself since he was born.
There seemed to be nothing abnormal about Khang's birth. However, when he was six, a turmour appeared on his face. Since then, he has undergone many surgeries and is no stranger to hospitals. He was finally diagnosed with bone cancer.
The mother has sold everything of value the house for the treatment, but it seems to be ineffective. Her husband left her to care for her son in a difficult position.
Linh said the turmour on Khang’s face has grown over the past two months. Now, she that she cannot afford to take him to hospital, she must care for him at home, administering medicine herself.
“She must go to Bac Lieu City, which is dozens of kilometres from her house to buy medicine for her son. The daily cost of medication reaches into the hundreds of thousands of VND,” Linh added.
Khang’s health has become worse and Linh had to stop working as a maid to take care of him. They now live on the support of neighbours.
Khang’s 73-year old grandmother is suffering from a stroke and is bedridden. She also has to take medication daily, adding to the family’s financial burden.
Tran Nghiep Doan, Vice Chairman of Vinh My A Commune People’s Committee, said the locality can only give a modest amount of financial to the family, and called for donors’ assistance.
