A small boy in Yen Bai Province was abandoned by his parents after they learned he had a blood disorder.

Doctor Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, of the Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, said that six-year-old Lo Ngoc Tan has only his grandmother by his bedside. He has to be brought to the hospital twice a week for transfusions, but his grandmother cannot afford to pay.
Tuan’s grandmother said that the boy was diagnosed when he was just nine months old. Two months later, the farther left home, leaving his wife and his son behind. When Tuan was three, his mother also left him. There has been no news of them so far.
His grandmother has been taking care of him since then, but they rely on neighbours' support because they are so poor. She works as a day labourer cutting grass to earn what little money they have.

Meanwhile Tuan's condition has deteriorated, causing his belly to swell and affecting several organs. Doctors said he will die if he does not receive regular transfusions.
Even though Tuan is frequently in pain, his grandmother is powerless to do anything because of a lack of money. Recently, thanks to the help of a group of student volunteers, he was taken to the hospital.
