"This is meaningful support from Dantri's readers for a poor household in our area," Hai said. "Together with the financial donations, we've also called on local people to help in the site clearance and material transportation for the house construction."
Attending the event, vice chairman of Phuoc Tra Commune People's Committee, Ho Van Dong, said that he was delighted to see the poor couple receive help from the community to have a new better house.
"I want to send my sincere thanks to Dantri Newspaper, donors and other organisations for your valuable support to Xao and other poor families in our area," the official said. "We'll co-operate with the contractor to complete Xao's house project before the Tet Lunar New Year Festival 2025."
The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs has asked organisations and individuals to build 100 new houses for disadvantaged families nationwide between 2024 and 2025.
As a ministry publication, Dantri Newspaper has begun a campaign to build the houses with financial support from the newspaper's readers and donors. Each family will receive at least VND50 million.
As of November 27, 2024, Dantri had constructed 69 houses, 42 of which had been completed.
