Young man in Dong Nai arrested for wildlife trafficking

A young man in the southern province of Dong Nai was detained for transporting wild animals to sell.

On the evening of August 11, Tri An Commune police caught a 27-year-old man residing in Phu Ly Commune in Dong Nai riding a motorbike with a black plastic bag hanging on the side.

Upon inspection, they found a live masked palm civet weighing 600 grammes in the bag. The police also uncovered two dead porcupines, both decapitated and gutted, weighing 4 kg and 4.2 kg, in his motorbike’s storage.

The man admitted to trapping the animals in Nam Cat Tien Forest, then arranging to sell them to an unidentified buyer, with a meeting set in Tri An Commune for the sale.

While waiting for the buyer, he was spotted by Tri An Commune police on patrol and taken to the station for questioning.

The police handed him and the evidence over today, August 13, to Forest Protection Unit 5 under the Dong Nai Forest Protection Department for action against illegal wildlife transport.
