Local people in Hoa Hai Commune saw the whale on July 14. At that time, it was surfacing to hunt for prey in the area, some 1.5 kilometres from Ganh Cape in the commune.
The whale is around 8 metres long.

According to the commune authorities, this was the first time a whale had been discovered near the coast.
Ganh Cape is nearly 100 kilometres from Quy Nhon City’s centre. It retains its pristine beauty, rocky shores, and long, sandy coastline.
